A Castlebar man who allegedly held up two head shops in Castlebar with a knife had his case adjourned to Castlebar District Court on June 7, with strict bail conditions, in Ballyhaunis District Court this week.

Garda Robert McCallion, a 29-year-old native of Swinford who lost his battle for life at Beaumont Hospital Dublin on Tuesday, has been described as a “hero”.

A 73-year-old man was given a two year driving ban for drink driving and fined €600 at Ballyhaunis District Court this week. Michael Casey, Glann, Kilkelly, had contested the charge in court but Judge Mary Devins found that the arresting garda had acted as he should have when stopping Casey.
